Dead Air

Dead Air

One of the worst mistakes you can make on radio is Dead Air. Dead Air is when the cue for the next commercial, song or announcement is missed, and the listener's hear nothing at all for several seconds or even minutes. Dead Air is also a serious issue when considering hiring a Typical Wedding Band. If you ask to view a demo video, you can rest assured that there will be no Dead Air left for you to see. So be proactive and ask to see an uncut video of the Typical Wedding Band in action so you can watch how well they transition from one song to the next.

A Typical Wedding Band will commonly allow several seconds or even minutes of Dead Air between songs as they discuss which song to play next and maybe re-tune their instruments. Sometimes they will even allow Dead Air after the toasts or some other event where well-timed music would have made for a much better transition. A Great Wedding Band will be ready to play after each special event and they will keep the music going seamlessly without taking breaks or pausing to determine which song they should play next. A Wedding Entertainment Director™ will also deliver a performance free of Dead Air as they are playing pre-recorded music and have typically planned the entire agenda, so they are fully aware of each important cue.

Dead Air can really put a damper on the dancing at a reception. Imagine a great song ending and as the crowd is applauding, the Typical Wedding Band begins to discuss amongst themselves which song they should play next. While they are busy talking, the Dead Air becomes uncomfortable and the guests, who are now just standing on the dance floor, begin to walk back to their tables. Just as they reach their seats, the Typical Wedding Band strikes up with another song and some of the guests come back and begin to dance again. Now, repeat that process several times. Soon, your guests will begin to grow tired of the Dead Air between the songs and many of them will begin to head for the door. So insist on seeing uncut footage of your Typical Wedding Band before deciding whether they will be providing the entertainment at your reception.
